7-Day Lake District Motorhome Trip Itinerary

Planning a motorhome trip to the Lake District? Then you’re in for a treat! The region is brimming with stunning landscapes, quaint villages and plenty of activities for you and your family. Here’s a 7-day itinerary to help you make the most out of your trip.

Day 1: Windermere

Day 2: Ambleside and Rydal Water

  • In the morning head to Ambleside, a charming town with shops and cafes.
  • Take a short walk to Rydal Water for picturesque views.
  • Hike around the landscapes, take photos and enjoy the nature.

Day 3: Grasmere and Keswick

  • Visit Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth and explore the village.
  • Don’t forget to try the famous Grasmere gingerbread!
  • Head over to Keswick for dinner, where you can also visit the Theatre by the Lake.

Day 4: Ullswater Adventure

  • Drive to Ullswater, which is the second largest lake in the area.
  • Try kayaking or take a boat cruise on the lake.
  • We recommend packing a picnic to enjoy by the lake so you can soak up the surroundings.
  • Return to your campsite and relax for the evening. Perhaps you could share some stories around a campfire.

Day 5: Coniston Water

  • Take the scenic route for a drive towards Coniston Water.
  • Explore the local walking trails, including the route around the lake.
  • Visit Brantwood and tour the former home of John Ruskin which overlooks the lake.
  • Head out for dinner at Coniston Village and enjoy a meal before settling down for the night.

Day 6: Langdale Valley

  • Spend the day hiking in the beautiful Langdale Valley.
  • After a busy morning enjoy lunch at a local café.
  • Visit Dungeon Ghyll and take in the views from the valley floor.

Day 7: Departure and Reflection

  • Enjoy a final breakfast overlooking the lake and pack up your motorhome for the trip back to your drop-off point.
  • Check out of the campsite and take a final drive, before saying a goodbye to the Lake District.
