Scotland is made for motorhome travel with its open roads that make you want to stop to admire the view. Starting and finishing at the Just go Edinburgh depot, this seven day route takes in the best of Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside.

Day 1 – Motorhome Pick Up & Explore Edinburgh

Collect your motorhome from our Edinburgh branch and take time to familiarise yourself with the vehicle, check your itinerary and stock up before heading into the city.

Park at a dedicated motorhome site as close to the city centre as possible where a short bus, tram or taxi ride can take you into the historic old town, where you can spend the afternoon at some of the best attractions:

Round off the day with dinner before returning to your motorhome for a quiet night surrounded by the scenery.

Day 2 – Stirling & The Trossachs

Head west on the M9 towards Stirling which takes around an hour. The compact city is easy to explore on foot so be sure to visit Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument.

In the afternoon continue onward to Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The area has woodland walks, loch side trails and the village of Callander. Pitch up overnight near to Loch Lubnaig or Balmaha where the sunset over the water creates a perfect evening in your motorhome.

Day 3 – Glencoe & Fort William

Drive north through Crianlarich and into the beautiful Glencoe valley. This route is one of the most scenic in Scotland, with mountains and waterfalls on view as you drive. Stop at the National Trust for Scotland Visitor Centre for history and short walking trails.

Continue to Fort William, which sits beneath Britain’s highest peak, Ben Nevis. For non climbers, there are hiking routes along Glen Nevis and the Caledonian Canal. Fort William has several campsites with good facilities to stop over, be sure to try the local seafood at the harbour.

Day 4 – Skye

From Fort William, cross the Ballachulish Bridge and follow the A87 to Eilean Donan Castle. It’s worth a short visit to the castle grounds. Then head back onto the A87 to the Isle of Skye via the Skye Bridge. Base yourself in Broadford, which is convenient for onward travel or Portree, which is the island’s main town.

Have an afternoon at Old Man of Storr or Kilt Rock, which have incredible views over Skye. Overnight motorhome sites are plentiful and many offer lochside pitches with views.

Day 5 – Inverness & Loch Ness

It's time to return to the mainland and head north east to Inverness via Loch Cluanie. Break for a walk at Urquhart Castle on the edge of Loch Ness.

Arrive in Inverness by late afternoon to explore Inverness Castle, the Victorian Market, and the River Ness walkways. The city has several motorhome parks and nearby rural sites if you’d prefer a quieter stay.

Day 6 – Pitlochry & Perthshire Forests

Drive south through the Cairngorms National Park, with mountain scenery and scenic towns like Aviemore and Kingussie. A quick stop beside Loch Morlich is a nice place to pause before driving down the A9 to Pitlochry.

Pitlochry is a small Victorian town with forest walks and waterfalls. Visit the Salmon Ladder at Pitlochry Dam or tour the Blair Athol Distillery for a sample of the local whisky. Campsites are close to the river with easy access to the town.

Day 7 – Return to Edinburgh

On the last day head back to the Just go Edinburgh depot. Think about including a detour to Falkland Palace or a coffee stop in Dunfermline.

Make sure to arrive with time to refuel and unpack your motorhome before returning it. Hand over the keys, share your stories with the Just go team and book in your next UK motorhome hire adventure.

Tips For Your Motorhome Trip
